Treated sewage is Going to Replace Narmada Water in Sabarmati River

According to AMC (Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation) officials, they are planning to replace Narmada water with treated sewage water from Sabarmati River. After Sardar Sarovar dam's canal network is completed, the Narmada river will not have enough water for the Sabarmati. So they need to find an alternative.

News in Ahmedabad revealed,”This is the first project of its kind in the whole country. The main objective of this project to keep the Sabarmati river flowing with water that supports aquatic life. But this is not as simple as it seems. Once started, it will take at least three years to be completed”.

Not only it helps in sustaining aquatic life, but it also helps farmers of 43 villages situated downstream to get cleaner water which they can use in irrigation. Costing is the major factor that plays a vital role in this project. According to sources in Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL), treating sewage and purifying it to bathing quality would cost Rs 12 per 1,000 litres in comparison to narmada water which will cost them Rs 1.60 per 1,000 litres. So Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has approached to state government for 60 % funding of this grand project which has cost around 250 crores.
